Excellent high quality produce, both organic and non-organic. I highly recommend it. Some of the food is more expensive than Loblaws, but the quality is usually much higher.
I inspected the facilities at Byward Fruit Market in 2007. First, the produce are not store properly. Both of the coolers upstairs and downstairs where defective and at incorrect temperatures for storing produce. A lot of produce boxes where sitting directly on the wet/damp floor instead of being placed on the pallets. Second, the work/cutting areas where very filthy and hazardous. The cutting boards and tables where not washed and sanitized after each preparations and same thing for the knifes used for the preparation and peeling.
Also, the cleaning and various sanitation products where not stored properly with a risk of toxic contamination of the produce. Garbages are also piled too close to the work/preparation areas in the basement risquing the spread of diseases. An employee also reported a vermin problem in the basement.
For your health and safety don't shop there!!! and if you don't believe me take a quick look at the basement, it's a nightmare.
